We are nearing the time when we will transition into a new life as well, although we will continue to have the opportunity to deepen and expand our friendships. On Sunday, September 8th, we will celebrate our final worship service at Parkway United Church of Christ. Dan Ritter and the Parkway Chancel Choir will return to make this a service to remember! Rev. Dr. Anita Bradshaw, our Associate Conference Minister, will help us celebrate the service, as we thank God for this congregation and its long history, and commit ourselves to serving God in the future.
Following the service, we will celebrate with a catered party ending around 2:00. The choir will sing us on our way, and there will be time to visit with old friends!
During the week between Sept. 8th and Sept. 15th, items that make us feel ‘at home’, as well as things like office furniture, the industrial refrigerator, and the grand piano will be moved to Robbinsdale. We want everything set up to greet us when we celebrate our first service as a New Church on September 15th.
Favorite items that we will take with us include the back-lit stained glass picture of Jesus in the narthex, the stained glass ‘Twenty-third Psalm’ loon picture in the library, our large steel cross behind the altar, the replica of the liberty bell in the entrance, the grand piano, baptismal font, and “The Annunciation” picture by He Qi in the narthex.
Other things that aren’t needed at Robbinsdale have been given or sold to those who will use them well. Sunday School furniture, including small tables, chairs and toys, have been given to “Mis Amigos” Spanish Immersion Preschool, which is housed at Mizpah UCC in Hopkins, and is also expanding to new locations. Two upright pianos were given to Keys 4/4 Kids. We will be advertising various unneeded church goods to other churches in the Mn. Conference newsletter The COMMAntary. We are having a garage sale on September 14th.
The stained glass windows that the congregation chose to take with us to the new church are the ones picturing Jesus’ birth, Jesus teaching on the mountain, loaves and fishes, the Risen Christ, and the world. Empirehouse Glass, Inc. volunteered to remove our windows for free, and the Parkway Council suggested a $250 donation for those who wish to purchase one. The windows are unframed, but could possibly be framed by Empirehouse for an additional reasonable cost. If you are interested in purchasing a window, please let Char or Kathy know.
Our first service as a new United Church of Christ will be held on September 15th. Both congregations will come together and vote to officially join together and form a new legal and religious corporation. Remember to bring some water from a place you’ve been this summer. We will incorporate it into a symbol of our becoming one! Our Conference Minister Rev. Shari Prestemon will be with us to celebrate. This is a great day in the United Church of Christ! Join us!
