We face many challenges today, in our personal lives, as well as that of our country and our church. We have a new administration and we don’t know where that will lead. Our church is facing challenges financially, and some people are experiencing anxiety, fear, and possibly some grief. In all areas of our lives, we don’t know what the future holds.
“But, who knows? Perhaps you have come to your royal dignity for such a time as this!” Royal dignity? Really? In choosing scriptures for February, I stumbled across this passage. “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?... For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.” (1 Corinthians 3: 16 & 17) That sounds like royal dignity to me!
We are a holy people. We have the Holy Spirit for a reason. We are lights set in the darkness, a city on a hill, the salt of the earth, and the yeast in the dough. We shine out, and we make good things grow, and we make a difference! And yeast doesn’t act alone. It needs warm water, or nothing happens. We need each other.
Like Queen Esther, we have a purpose. We aren’t likely to appear in the history books, but we are needed to help light things up, to promote goodness, to change what needs changing, to advocate for others, to make the common good grow and expand!
You are the sum of everything that you have lived through, experienced, learned, and absorbed. That is no small thing! Each of us bring all of those resources to each situation and person that we encounter. The Holy Spirit will guide us, and if we pay attention, and make the best decisions that we can based upon what we know at the time, we can trust that this will lead us all where we need to be.
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said. We’re following! We’re following!
